FLAS Checklist
Applications are due Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 at 4:00 pm (check your department's deadline)
Steps in the process:
- Complete the Online Application. This must be accomplished in one session so be prepared. The form will ask you to enter your:
- UIN
- Full name
- Degree program: MA, Phd, or MA/Phd
- Department
- Mailing Address
- Place and Date of Birth
- US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
- Undergraduate and Graduate programs attended, with degree dates, credit hours completed, GPA, and Degree awarded.
- Proposed FLAS Language of Study, including your level and year
- Whether you have received an award from FLAS, including the year, the Center that awarded the fellowship, and language of study
- Other Language proficiency, if any
- Addresses and Phone numbers of three references
- Course information for the language and area studies classes you plan to take during the Fall and Spring semesters of your fellowship
- And for summer applications, the program name, location, credit hours, and estimated cost of tuition.
Once you have gathered this information, you can begin the Online application
The following materials should be submitted to your academic Department, which will in turn submit your materials to the FLAS Centers of your choice. Note that each Center requires a separate set of supporting materials.
- Download, fill out, and print your Cover Sheet:
- Submit three letters of reference, one each from your:
- Major adviser
- An instructor
- Most recent language instructor
- Submit your Undergraduate and Graduate transcripts.
- Submit your Statement of Purpose essay.
Current students of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign must use the online application, rather than the print version meant for prospective students without University ID's, but may benefit from reviewing the information requested in it before beginning the on-line application.
